After a local youth wind ensemble rehearsal, 16-year-old Marc Placencia nervously approached Patrick Sheridan to introduce himself- the rest is history. Two years later he was accepted into Sam Pilafian's studio at Arizona State University. He worked closely with the two famous collaborators, jump-starting a varied and vibrant career as a professional musician.

Placencia began freelancing in the Phoenix Metropolitan area in 2010 and has performed with the Phoenix Symphony, Tuscon Symphony, AZMusicFest Orchestra, West Valley Symphony, Musica Nova Orchestra, Pro Arte Orchestra, Salt River Brass and the Bad Cactus Brass Band. In the summer of 2017, he left the valley for Anaheim, CA where he participated in the prestigious Disneyland All-American College Band. He has also appeared multiple times with the Seattle Symphony.

Marc performed as a soloist with the Salt River Brass, Navy Band Northwest, Arizona State University Wind Ensemble, at the U.S. Army Band Tuba-Euphonium Workshop and was featured twice on King FM 98.1 in Seattle. He is also the winner of the SWRTEC Mock Orchestra Competition, runner up in the SWRTEC Tuba Solo Competition and was a winner of the Arizona State University Concerto Competition.

Committed to education, Marc started a project recording “A-List” military band tuba excerpts on YouTube in 2020. This has become a valuable resource for aspiring professionals pursuing careers in military bands. In addition to this, he regularly posts content on his Instagram (@tuba.marcplacencia) featuring practice suggestions and solo performances. He has presented recitals and masterclasses at Arizona State University, Central Washington University, Washington State University and the University of Washington.

In November 2017 he accepted a position with the Navy Fleet Bands. After completing basic training, he attended the Naval School of Music in Little Creek, VA. He was subsequently stationed at Navy Band Northwest in Silverdale, WA. In February 2022, Marc won an audition with the United States Army Band “Pershing's Own” Ceremonial Band. After completing basic training (again!) he started working his dream job in September 2022.

He holds a bachelors degree from Arizona State University and his primary mentors are acclaimed tubists Dr. Deanna Swoboda, Sam Pilafian, Patrick Sheridan and Gabriel Sears. He is proudly married to his wife, Brittany, and is the father of two amazing children, Oliver and Abagail.
